Richard Roll

Founder, CEO and President
American Homeowners Association (AHA)®

Richard J. Roll is a nationally recognized advocate for homeowners and a respected expert on financial services, marketing and mortgage issues. A former Citibank executive and coauthor of two best-selling personal finance books, The Best Years Book (with Hugh Downs) and Getting Yours (with Harvard Business School classmate G. Douglas Young), in 1991, Mr. Roll co-founded a leading mortgage-auditing service called Mortgage Monitor. Thousands of homeowners throughout the country relied on Mortgage Monitor to help them reduce mortgage and property-tax costs, negotiate more advantageous financial arrangements and recover millions of dollars in overcharged fees and payments.

A passionate advocate for homeowner issues, he has testified before the U.S. House Banking Committee at the behest of the Attorney General of New York, influencing new mortgage-administration rules that have reduced costs to homeowners by billions of dollars. He also testified before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee on behalf of greater disclosures and automatic termination for Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI), influencing legislation signed by President Clinton that made it easier for borrowers to cancel PMI once they paid their mortgages down to a certain level.

In 1994, Mr. Roll founded the American Homeowners Association (AHA), the national organization that delivers buying power, influence and consumer advice to millions of homeowners across the United States. In its continuous commitment to improve homeowners' quality of life, AHA works with leading financial institutions, corporations and organizations across the country to help them bring AHA's savings, security and many benefits to their customers and employees. Using AHA's success as a model, he founded the American Health Association (AHA Health) in 1998. AHA Health delivers discount health care benefits to consumers and companies through its health discount membership program Healthy Advantage.

Mr. Roll has dedicated his career to guiding homeowners through the often-complicated maze of real-estate transactions, property-tax issues and other potential consumer pitfalls. He is often sought out by the media to comment as a home-issues expert, appearing on such influential broadcast outlets as CNN, CNNfn, CNBC and "The Wall Street Journal Report", as well as in print media such as USA Today, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Chicago Sun-Times, Business Week, Worth, Money, SmartMoney and many others.

Mr. Roll is a graduate of Brown University and holds an M.B.A. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.
