Cooling Off:
Refrigerators & Freezers

The Basics
What you need to know about keeping things cool.

Today's refrigerator and freezer options are wide open too. In fact, you can customize your cooling needs to specific types of foods or beverages.

The Choices

It's not a simple choice anymore.

  • Side-by-side: This option offers a lot of space with a lot of storage options. Most come with movable shelves and storage units. They are the most accessible option on the market. They also come in a variety of sizes, from standard to oversized.

  • Top-to-bottom: These are the old refrigerators of our youth. The freezer either sits on top of the refrigerator or on bottom. The refrigerator is the focus, and the freezer is much smaller . . . almost an afterthought. Of course, these come in a variety of sizes too.

  • Modular: Want a wine cooler? Fine. What about a cooling drawer just for fruits? Want your drinks at a different temperature? Modular units are small and fit under the cabinet or in a drawer. They are suited to fit in your cabinetry unseen or can fit your decorating scheme. The biggest advantage is the ability to program each modular unit at a different temperature. You can also add smaller units in easy-to-reach areas for children. This helps ease your traffic flow through the main cooking part of the kitchen.

Energy Efficient

Don't be cheap when buying your refrigerator. The cheaper models are not as energy efficient and will end up costing you more in the long run and not be as good to the environment long term.

Fit Your Refrigerator/Freezer to Your Family

If you feed a lot of hungry people, go large. You will be happy you did.

Same holds true for the dishwasher...
