Higher property taxes. Tax assessors use home improvements to reassess a house's value. Improvemnets that may boost taxes: Kitchen remodeling . . . bathroom addition or remodeling. Improivements that shouldn't affect taxes: Interior or exterior cosmetic upgrades, such as painting, putting up crown molding and lawn or landscaping work.
