Choosing an Agent

Finding a good one isn't difficult if you take your time.

What You Want

Knowing the types of qualities you want will help narrow the field.

Finding the right one isn't that difficult. You just need to take a few precautionary steps. There are a few simple rules to use when choosing an agent. Keep these in mind when launching your search and you should do fine.

1. You want a Real Estate Agent who takes the time to understand your needs: Find an agent who will review your goals with you and what features and amenities you are looking for. An Agent who spends more time with you is better equipped to find a home that will fit your needs and won't waste your time showing you homes that don't make sense.

2. You want a Real Estate Agent who is familiar with the area: Find an agent who knows about each of the communities in the area. The agent should know about the recreational facilities nearby, distance from shopping and the unique features of each neighborhood. You don't want vague answers when it comes to the location of amenities and services that will determine the quality of your life in that home.

3. You want a Real Estate Agent who can choose from a large number of homes: Find an agent who is part of at least one local MLS (multiple listing service). This will provide the agent with a larger number of homes to show you than just the homes available through their office. Approximately 70% of homes that are purchased are shown through the MLS. Don't limit your choices. Not every agent will have this type of access.

4. You want a Real Estate Agent who can provide al the services you need: Choose an agent who has the products, services and resources to find the perfect home for you. Not every agency will offer the same services. Check around for the widest variety.

5. Choose an Agent who really listens to your needs: There is nothing worse than spending time looking at homes that don't meet your basic needs. Find an agent who will take the time to listen to your needs and find homes that are suitable. You want someone who is as interested in finding the right home for you as you are.

That's Great...

But how do I interview an agent to see if those qualities are present? Keep going and we will give you some tips.
