Founder and President

Richard J. Roll

Richard J. Roll is a nationally recognized authority on home ownership issues and a widely respected expert on consumer personal financial services. He has authored two books which have each been syndicated in 25 major metropolitan newspapers. One book, The Best Years Book, authored with TV personality Hugh Downs, became a Book of the Month Club and Fortune Book Club selection. Getting Yours, authored with Harvard Business School classmate Douglas Young, was praised by Barron's, and listed in USA Today as a best selling business book. Both are listed on Amazon.com.

Mr. Roll's articles on financial services and marketing have appeared in the Bankers Magazine, Bank Marketing Magazine, Bank Directors Report, and numerous other business and professional publications. In his twenty-five year business career, Mr. Roll and his work have appeared regularly on CNN, CNBC the Wall Street Journal Report, Business Week, Bottom Line Personal, Worth Magazine, Money Magazine, Ladies Home Journal, Glamour Magazine and countless other press and media outlets. He has also built, bought and sold numerous homes. Mr. Roll is quoted in hundreds of articles each month on homeowner and industry related issues. Mr. Roll graduated from Brown University and the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.

Richard Roll co-founded a leading mortgage auditing service, Mortgage Monitor, which has served thousands of satisfied homeowner customers. As a result of this experience, he was invited to testify before the U. S. House Banking Committee in 1993 by the then Attorney General of New York, Robert Abrams, a noted consumer advocate. Mr. Roll's testimony helped to spearhead new mortgage administration rules which have saved billions of dollars for homeowners since 1995. He has also testified before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee on behalf of greater disclosures and automatic termination for PMI (Private Mortgage Insurance), in 1997. Today, AHA works with leading financial institutions, corporations and organizations across America to help them bring AHA's savings, security, and other benefits affordably to their customers and employees.

As a result of Mr. Roll's testimony, he received uncommon praise from then-Chairman of the House Banking Committee, Representative Henry Gonzales, who wrote a personal letter to Mr. Roll following his testimony and assistance stating: "Please know how much I admire and thank you for your magnificent work." Mr. Roll's experience in helping to bring about and write this new legislation, combined with his direct experience with the needs and common issues faced by millions of homeowners, led him to the founding of the American Homeowners Association (AHA)® in 1994.
